It almost seems like the beak could come off...like it is interchangeable. I can picture this skimmer as just a regular shorebird, without the strange beak. What an odd but cool looking bird!

Nice Skimmer Shot.I just found a place where they live around here in Pascagoula,Ms.They are odd looking birds,with a small underbite.I'd like to get one feeding.Apparently they fly with their bottom jaw in the water only.Cool Bird,Thanks

I have NEVER seen a Black Skimmer young 'un. Looks like a completely different bird and its bill was tacked-on from the Black Skimmer that we all recognize...A seriously-sweet shot, Ken.
